This page is designed to demonstrate the use of basic HTML tables, and their flexibility. Tables can be used in various ways to display reference materials in an easy-to-read format. The use of colspan, or rowspan attributes allow a single cell to run across multiple columns or rows, which can be used to indicate that a single piece of information fits in multiple categories, without it being needlessly duplicated. Tables can also be used for formatting. To separate a title from a navigation bar, and a page's main content, in an aesthetically pleasing manner.

Ringworld | Larry Niven | 1970 |
Louis Wu has just celebrated his 200th birthday, and is bored with life. So, when he is recruited by the Puppeteers on a mission of great importance, and great reward, he jumps at the chance to get away from it all. With the Puppeteer representative, Nessus; Speaker-to-Animals, a Kizn diplomat; and Teela Brown, a human bred for luck; they travel two hundred light years, in the fastest ship in Known Space to examine the Ringworld, a massive structure holding three million times the living space of planet Earth. But once they arrive, an unforeseen disaster strands them on the surface. Finding a way home will not be easy. |
Rendezvous With Rama | Arthur C. Clarke | 1972 |
For the past five decades, Project Spaceguard has been tracking every space object it can find, so the disaster that devastated Northeast Italy will never be repeated. But among the millions of objects catalogued, only one will go down in history as it changes humanity's view of the universe. A perfect cylinder, 20 kilometres in diameter, and 54 kilometres long, travelling at 100,000 km/h, spinning at 0.25 rpm. It was not created by nature. The solar survey vessel, Endeavour, as the only ship in the area, is tasked to meet with it, and explore the first evidence of an alien intelligence humanity has ever encountered. |
